How to get clear skin and ditch the make up?

Women smiling with clear skin, dermalogical

I get asked a lot how to get clear skin, and how to keep my skin healthy and bright. It isn’t difficult, but without the right skincare products and a consistent routine the results are poor.  The key area is cleansing and exfoliation, if your skin isn’t clean and then protected with a good moisturiser you can be prone to redness, itching and irritation.

Dermalogica skincare products – why I recommend them

I’ve been using Dermalogica personally for 15 years and working with it in the salon since we opened 7 years ago.  The brand is a professional skincare company that really focuses on results, whether it’s in the treatment room or in your home.  The training to be recognised as a Dermalogica Skin Expert is amazing and really encourages a bespoke way of working with the client.

The products are paraben and sulfate-free, contain no artificial fragrances, no alcohol, and are Peta approved.  There is a product to suit every skin type and condition.  With guidance from a professional skin therapist to prescribe the correct product the results speak for themselves.

Here are 4 tips to get clear skin

  1. Double cleanse (yes, you’re going to wash your face twice).  I recommend Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse to remove surface dirt and make-up gently and effectively without stressing the skin.  Follow with a skin specific treatment cleanser to deeply cleanse.  Water soluble products mean that dead skin cells are rinsed away when you remove the cleanser.

2. Exfoliate with a gentle non-abrasive product such as Dermalogica’s Daily Micro-foliant.  This is a chemical exfoliator (the ingredients become active when water is added) to brighten the skin, clear the pores and remove dead skin cells gently.  Rather than feeling gritty this product is mixed to a foam and feels soft on the skin.

3. Spritz with a toning skin freshener to add an extra layer of hydration.  Dermalogica Multi-Active toner can also be applied during the day to cool you down and give a boost of freshness.

4. Follow with a moisturiser containing a minimum of SPF30 for daytime use and apply directly to the skin whilst still damp from the toner.  The product will go further and lock in the moisture.  For evenings a treatment oil is luxurious and softening.

By doing this routine morning and evening you will soon see a difference in the clarity, brightness and texture of your skin.
